Local , family owned business serving up traditional & Americano style eastern cuisine. Don't be put off by the shabby interior because this food is great. Sweet and sour for the reserved & traditional dim-sum for the more adventurous! Unbeatable lunch specials & the staff are super sweet. Come check it out!

I used to live across the street from this place almost 20 years ago. I can't believe it is still in business. It is one of the oldest, if not The Oldest Chinese restaurant in DSM. I came here recently because it had gotten a lot of good reviews on a Facebook page I follow. I was super disappointed. I wanted it to be my new favorite Chinese place. Unfortunately, it was very bland and unappealing. They did have good crab rangoons though! The décor is very run down - some may say retro, but it really seems like it needs a good scrub down.

This restaurant is dirty and has napkins and trash under the booth seats. I blacklisted this place last time I went because it took us over an hour and a half to get our food, but my husband wanted to give another try. The food is bland, over cooked, and unappetizing. Our service was a bit faster this time, but since the food is so gross, I'm done trying this place. Don't waste your money. There are a million better Chinese restaurants.

I was surprised to see all the low reviews for this place because this is my go-to dim sum place in town and I love it. I have only had dim sum here and never ordered from their menu in all of my visits here, which is a lot. I have always seen the same staff working and I noticed the server does not seen to happy to be there, never a smile, but she does job well nonetheless. We usually have a group of people when eating here and order a LOT of food. Their dim sum is good here, but obviously not as good as large cities such as Chicago, Minneapolis, or New York. The price is not bad. Parking is limited out front, but I have always found a spot. They have the best chicken feet in town here, their sauce is good and feet tender. I would even go to say this is the best chicken feet I have had in my life! For those who have not had dim sum , you should definitely come try it out to see what it is about. For those who are familiar to dim sum, this is a tally on a sheet order style, not carting food around style.

You order off a menu. The staff was pleasant and the food came out in a decent amount of time. The ha gow was steamed too long. The rice flour wrapper was gummy. The shu mai was good. The sticky rice could've had more lap cheong and less fat. I think that the pork in my steamed pork bun was Underwood Deviled ham. Too salty.

We came here around 11:30 am and were seated right away. Our drink orders were taken shortly after, and we filled out the sheet at our table for dim sum. We ordered the har gau (shrimp dumplings), shu mai (pork and shrimp filled dumpling), crab rangoon, curried squid, rice noodle with shrimp, potstickers, and chicken feet. The har gau wrapper was way too thick, as if I was chewing bubblegum. It shouldn't be thick like that. The shu mai was mainly ground pork and lacked any shrimp in it. Why bother saying it has shrimp in it, if there's none? The crab rangoon, curried squid, and potstickers were probably the only things that were good. The rice noodle with shrimp was really thick and soggy. The chicken feet was overly salty and not steamed long enough - usually the skin is supposed to be falling off with a soft texture, but it was chewy and hard to eat. Overall, the dim sum here was horrible, and to top it off, the service was horrible as well. Only one of the waitresses (the one with the short hair) was nice enough to come by and ask us if everything was okay, but every other waitress we had (one with longer hair and one half-asian girl probably around 12 years old) seemed like they hated working there. I can honestly say that this is the first time I've gone to a restaurant where I have felt "unwelcomed" to be there. Being a Chinese myself from the Kwongtung/Guangdong region, I know what good dim sum is, and to be honest, quite offended that they use the Kwong tung region as their restaurant name, when they do not live up to it.

I'm pretty shocked at the negative reviews. I honestly don't believe anyone who says it took 2 people 2+ hours to get fed during dim sum service. That sounds like more than an exxageration. I come here with 5 friends every few weeks for dim sum. That makes 6 of us in total. We order a ton of different dishes. We are in, fed, and out the door in 1 1/2 hours tops. I've never waited more than 15 minutes for dim sum dishes to start coming out. I think we have a lot of drama queens leaving reviews here.

I had several items here, expecting authentic Chinese food, due to the reviews. Really far from it. The noodles were gloppy and tasteless. The wings were decent but I won't be back for them. I may try the dim sum, but I don't know if it will be worth it.

Slow service! It's been over 40 minutes, it's not even that busy. We wanted to get some dim sum, but the wait is horrible. I'm pretty much getting full off the tea. The jasmine tea they offer is low quality, tea leaves are shredded and too much oxidation, looks more brown than green. The food is okay

I went in on a Sunday morning with a friend for dim sum. The reason I'm even giving this place a 1 is because I didn't wait too long for my food to get to my table, and the dim sum is relatively cheap. Service is HORRIBLE. I've never been anywhere in my short time in Des Moines where I did not feel welcomed as a guest of a restaurant. The servers who waited on my friend and I acted as if we were taking up their time when we asked for little things. They did not even try to make sure we were doing okay or anything. I felt very uncomfortable eating here! The food is not memorable. Our food was barely warm and not hot like traditional, or even decent, dim sum should be. The shrimp in the rice crepes and also the spring rolls were precooked, hard, and tasteless. Do not order the Vietnamese spring rolls! Firstly, the dim sum menu said that it came with shrimp. When we got our spring rolls, there was only iceberg lettuce and a piece of cilantro in it. Who intentionally orders a spring roll like that? When we told our server that it didn't have shrimp, she then told us we had to order it with shrimp. I don't get it? The peanut sauce that came with it was no appetizing at all. When we did get our spring rolls with shrimp, the lettuce was old and the shrimp was hard. It's very hard to not make a good Vietnamese spring roll. All in all, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, nor would I go back!

We came in Sunday for dim sum, had the spring rolls, stuffed bell pepper, shu mai and flat noodles. Everything was oversalted and the shu mai soggy. Service was incredibly slow and we got our dishes one by one at an agonizing pace. Overall, perhaps Des Moines is behind when it comes to specialty cuisine

Went for lunch. Menu was ok, service was ok - General Tso's chicken was bland

Well, I came with some Meetup folks to try out dim sum here. I tried to be open-minded since it's Des Moines. To my previous dim sum experiences, this is probably below average. The only highlight was the chicken feet. However, I had already eaten some of the sub-par small dishes which made me full. If you come hungry, then you probably will think this is heaven. For me, hungry or not I am Asian so my tastebuds are more in-tune to my mom's cooking and Boston/Philly's Chinatowns which are much more authentic.

Kwong Tung offers Dim Sum on Sunday's from 10am to 2pm. So I rounded up a group of 5 friends, all very excited to try out their Sunday Dim Sum. Got to the restaurant at about 12:45, and although very packed, we got seated in about 5 minutes. Now this place was bustling...dim sum in des moines, how could I have been out of the loop for so long! I felt like I was excluded from this town's little secret! Anywho, I found it rather dark for dining...dim sum is usually comparable to "tea time" and expect that it be more well-lit. Now although you don't get the dim sum cart experience here, I'm sure others appreciate the fact that you have pictures of the variety. You are given an order sheet, just like when you order sushi, except the items are dim sum. THE PORTIONS ARE BIG. Being from California, I'm used to paying $1.20 & up per plate, KT's begins at $2.00 and goes up from there. But alot of their dishes are plentiful. Everything was pretty good...and I wasn't let down by their chicken feet...YES, CHICKEN FEET. I suggest you try it, just don't look at it when you eat for any first timers. Now in regards to service......OMG. Although getting seated wasn't a problem, getting our food was. Now let me remind you, our table was a total of FIVE people, and it literally took FOREVERRRR to get our food. We got at the restaurant at 12:45, and left @ 3pm. We actually had to stop-order on our ticket because this brunch was cutting into everyone's afternoon plans. Our bill came out to just over $70.00...so with tip just about $20/person. Not bad, however, left verrry disappointed because we were very much looking forward to the dishes we wanted but never made it out.

Went for Dim Sum, and will never return! It took over 2 hours for two people to get a few small plates, none of which tasted good. Don't go here, please! You'll waste hours of your life that you can never have back on a meal that isn't even good. Seriously, just don't!

Food: 4 Decor 3.5 Service 5 This place has old school charm. It's not pretentious or fancy. It's not trying to be anything that it's not. It's good, cheap Chinese food. Our waiter who seemed to have a friendly relationship with other tables around us was really nice. The service was excellent. The food was good. We split a 1/2 order (3 for under $2) crab rangoon appetizer which seemed to be lacking crab, but it was still tasty. Also had the shrimp wontons that did have the shrimp and were delicious. They were both deep fried and delicious. They hit the spot. Not being a food professional, I'm finding it hard to accurately describe the different dishes.... I will try. I had the princess chicken. The veggies were fresh and the celery crunchy... the way I like it! The sauce was garlcky and spicy with bits of red chili. It was a bit too spicy for my taste, but it had a nice flavor. R had kung bao chicken. It had a sweet and onion-y sauce with various fresh vegetables. We actually traded half way through our dinner. I will be going back to try their dim sum!!

Good dim sum but GO EARLY! This is a split ballot b/c the food is good but the service this morning was TERRIBLE and I'm not a serial whiner on this site by any means. I'd been two other times and always loved the variety and quality of the dishes- different than your run of the mill chinese places- they must be doing something right w/ how many asians they have in there (a good measuring stick for any ethnic restaurant). I pretty much knew what I wanted so we ordered almost immediately upon sitting down (once they finally came around to us, that is). It was almost an hour before we got the seaweed salad which is a cold dish that they almost certainly have on hand & prepared already. We got some my other favorites: ginger tripe, radish rice cake, chicken and mushrooms, sticky rice in bamboo leaf (mistake- looked like something we'd gotten the last time but what we should've ordered was lo mai gai), curry squid... they trickled out of the kitchen over 2 hours. We were seriously ready to walk out and at no point did anyone come over and explain that they were backed up or that our things would be right out- that's just bad. This should not dissuade you from trying this place- the food is tasty and unique; but GO EARLY if you're getting dimsum or don't come too hungry and be prepared to wait.

It's good, cheap Chinese food. A friend and I went for their Sunday Dim Sum. No traditional carts but they did have a handy menu with pictures so we could see what we were getting. The menu also had some odd typos that kept us entertained through lunch ... rabbet ... riblets, it's all the same, right? We weren't brave enough to try the fried chicken feet but we did tray about 7 different things and all were very good.

I don't know how much I can say about a Chinese restaurant that has hamburger and fries on the menu, but here it goes. I had the tilapia in orange sauce and the fried fish came drenched in sauce. Normally that is good for me, but this sauce was pure sugar. Speaking of citrus, there was no lemon for the water. I know that's a small thing, but come on! Also, they give you about half the rice that they should, which is about a tenth of what most places give you. At least the egg drop soup was good.
